Why Companies Buy Top Level Domains (TLD)

There are tons of reasons why companies buy other domain TLDs, one of the biggest factors is security and not just about brand ownership.
Some of the largest companies out there like Apple, Google & Microsoft buy and own hundreds of thousands of domains, if not more due to this very reason. They like to make sure their customers are secure from bad actors impersonating them.
So many scammers in this day and age sending out phishing type emails or people to fraudulent look a like websites to make a person look affiliated with that company in hoping to retrieve something valuable or possibly use it as a social engineering technique that could lead to gaining access to them.
I find it so interesting that Exegy Inc has never thought about this type of vulnerability in their infrastructure, especially when dealing with financial institutions and stock exchanges.
A bad actor could easily gain a full list of their employees, position at the company and email address to reach out to their customers to see what they could possibly social engineer from them or even send a malicious PDF or RPM to gain access to their network.
Even law firms like Cooley LLP are open to these types of attacks and the best part about them is their plaintiff or defendant are public information as long as a case has been filed with the courts. Also they release the name and email address they use on their site making some of the leg work easy for a bad actor.
It should make one wonder what a person that owns these domain TLDs could sell them for on the dark, especially to someone interested in attempting these illegal acts of crime.
I bought Exegy.us domain and interested in selling it for the right value, just reach out to me by email at editor@exegy.today.
